Wave Rider MT5

Inconclusive MT5 Grid Strategy XAUUSD Only Signal Withdrawn 10 Sep 2026

The Bottom Line

Wave Rider passed our Red-Flag Checklist with no violations found, and we still could not recommend it. That is what Inconclusive means here: not a finding of wrongdoing, but a record that does not carry enough weight to support a recommendation — and which, as of 10 September 2026, can no longer be checked by anyone.

The evidence was a genuine MQL5 signal running the developer's High Risk preset on gold: 310 trades over 24 weeks to 13 August 2026, a 75.48% win rate, a profit factor of 1.43, and maximum drawdown of 33.76% by balance and 33.01% by equity. The number that matters most is the recovery factor of 0.77 — the strategy had produced less net profit than its largest drawdown. A high win rate sitting on that ratio is a grid recovering losing positions, not a durable edge.

Scale limits what the record proves. The reference account held roughly 445 EUR of starting equity and under 700 EUR at its final reading, so a 33.76% drawdown is a far smaller sum in absolute terms than the percentage implies, and says little about how the strategy behaves on a larger account.

On the drawdown figure circulating in third-party marketing: at least one reseller quotes 7.8% without naming a preset. The developer publishes three, calibrated for roughly 10%, 15–20%, and up to around 35%. The gap is therefore explained by preset selection rather than by concealment, and we corrected an earlier version of this review that had compared the two figures as though they were like for like. It remains incomplete to publish a drawdown number without saying which configuration produced it.

Two things closed the door. Performance was deteriorating sharply before the end — the final month recorded was −23.52%. And on 10 September 2026 the provider withdrew the signal entirely. We do not treat withdrawal as evidence against a product; closing a signal is a business decision. But it means every figure above is now a historical record that no reader can verify, and that is not a foundation for a recommendation.

Methodology

Evaluation Methodology

This review was conducted under our Track 1 verification framework, which prioritises live-verified evidence over independently re-run backtests. Track 1 applies where an Expert Advisor has a genuine, independently tracked live trading history. Wave Rider had one at the time of assessment — it no longer does.

We recorded the official MQL5 signal statistics directly on 13 August 2026, covering 24 weeks of verified history, and took a final reading on 10 September 2026 shortly before the signal was withdrawn. We also examined the developer's own product page and its risk-preset documentation, third-party reseller marketing, and ForexPeaceArmy and Trustpilot, where we found no coverage of this EA. We did not purchase or run the Expert Advisor, and we did not re-verify trade-by-trade execution or broker conditions.

We record the Sharpe ratio where a platform publishes it — 0.15 in this case — but we do not use it as a pass or fail threshold, because platform-reported Sharpe is not comparable across differing monitoring periods and trade counts. Drawdown on both bases, the recovery factor, the payoff ratio and the integrity of the record carry the weight. Our full metric definitions are set out in How We Test Expert Advisors.

Note: every performance figure in this review is a dated snapshot taken from the public, independently-hosted MQL5 signal while it was live — not self-reported developer figures, and not a live feed. The signal has since been withdrawn, so these figures cannot be re-checked. We have kept them published rather than remove them, because deleting them would conceal what we assessed and why.

Final reading before withdrawalRecorded by us on 10 September 2026: 330 trades, 76.36% win rate, maximum drawdown unchanged at 33.76%, growth 68.94%, monthly growth −23.52%, annual forecast −100.00%, equity 667.38 EUR on 223.43 EUR profit
Reference account sizeSmall — roughly 445 EUR starting equity, per the final reading. A 33.76% drawdown on an account this size is a smaller absolute sum than the percentage suggests, and limits how much the record proves at scale
Pairs breakdown, expected payoff, best and worst trade, consecutive wins and losses, trades per week, average holding time, slippageNo longer retrievable — the signal was withdrawn before we captured these under our current data standard
Data was recorded directly from MQL5's independently-monitored signal servers on 13 August 2026, covering 24 weeks of verified history, with a final reading taken on 10 September 2026 shortly before the provider withdrew the signal. This signal ran the developer's High Risk preset, so the 33.76% figure reflects his most aggressive configuration, not the EA's only setting. The recovery factor of 0.77 means the strategy had produced less net profit than its largest drawdown. We report the Sharpe ratio for completeness but do not treat it as a pass or fail measure, as platform-reported Sharpe is not comparable across differing monitoring periods and trade counts. Past performance, including verified live performance, is not a guarantee of future results.

Key Evaluation Criteria

  • ⚠️Evidence Availability: The MQL5 signal this review was built on was withdrawn by the provider on 10 September 2026. Our figures stand as a dated record, but no reader can now verify them.
  • Live Verification (at assessment): Genuine MQL5 Signal — 310 trades over 24 weeks, running the developer's High Risk preset on Gold.
  • ⚠️Risk Profile: Grid recovery disclosed in full. Maximum drawdown 33.76% by balance and 33.01% by equity (24 weeks to 13 Aug 2026), a weak 1.43 profit factor, and a recovery factor of 0.77 — less net profit than the largest drawdown. A Single Position mode with no grid at all is also available.
  • ⚠️Marketing Accuracy: Third-party marketing quotes a 7.8% maximum drawdown without stating which risk preset it refers to. The signal we assessed was the High Risk preset, which recorded 33.76%.
  • ⚠️Independent Corroboration: No coverage found on ForexPeaceArmy or Trustpilot.
  • ⚠️Sample Scale: The reference account was small — under 700 EUR equity at its final reading — which limits how far the record demonstrates behaviour at larger account sizes.

Suitability & Risks

Why Inconclusive, Not Rejected

What this verdict does and doesn't mean

No checklist violation was found on the official product page itself. The concerns are weak risk-adjusted performance, incomplete third-party marketing, and now the loss of verifiable evidence — not concealment by the developer.

  • Grid mechanics disclosed in full, including the recovery logic and its risk settings
  • Three documented risk presets and a no-grid Single Position mode, so exposure is configurable
  • A real losing month was shown, not hidden
  • Withdrawing a signal is a business decision, not evidence of a performance failure
Key Risks

What to watch out for

These are the specific reasons this review stopped short of a recommendation.

  • ⚠️The evidence base is gone — you cannot check any published figure for yourself
  • ⚠️Grid mechanics accumulate exposure during sustained adverse moves, however well disclosed
  • ⚠️Recovery factor of 0.77 — the strategy had produced less net profit than its largest drawdown
  • ⚠️Performance was deteriorating sharply before withdrawal: −23.52% in the final month recorded
  • ⚠️Third-party marketing quotes a drawdown figure without naming the preset it applies to
  • ⚠️No independent review coverage found to cross-check the seller's own numbers

Important Disclosures

Update — 10 September 2026 The provider has withdrawn this EA's MQL5 signal. The URL now returns "signal is disabled and unavailable." Every performance figure in this review was recorded while that signal was public, and none of it can now be independently verified — by you, by us, or by anyone else. We have left the figures published rather than delete them, because removing them would conceal what we assessed and why, but they are a historical record only. We are also unable to re-verify this review on our usual quarterly cycle for as long as the signal stays down. We do not treat withdrawal as evidence against the product: closing a signal is a business decision, not a performance failure. It does, however, mean the record is no longer checkable, and that materially affects how much weight anyone should place on it.
Verification History
13 August 2026 — initial assessment. 310 trades, 75.48% win rate, 1.43 profit factor, 33.76% maximum drawdown by balance and 33.01% by equity, 0.77 recovery factor, 0.15 Sharpe, 24 weeks verified history. Signal already closed to new subscriptions at this point.
10 September 2026 — final reading. 330 trades, 76.36% win rate, maximum drawdown unchanged at 33.76%, growth 68.94%, monthly growth −23.52%, annual forecast −100.00%, equity 667.38 EUR on 223.43 EUR profit. The annual forecast is MQL5's mechanical extrapolation of one bad month, not a measurement.
10 September 2026 — signal withdrawn. Later the same day, the signal became unavailable entirely. No further verification is possible.
This re-verification also corrected an error in our original review. We had described third-party marketing as "materially misleading" for quoting 7.8% drawdown against our recorded 33.76%, without disclosing that the signal we assessed was the developer's High Risk preset, calibrated for up to around 35%. That comparison was not like for like, and the correction is reflected throughout this page.
What would change this verdict. So that this does not rest on our judgement alone, these are the conditions under which we would move Wave Rider from Inconclusive to Not Recommended, if verifiable evidence becomes available again:
  • Maximum drawdown exceeding 40%, which would falsify the developer's own calibration of roughly 35% for this preset.
  • Profit factor falling below 1.10 on an extended sample.
  • Credible evidence of misrepresentation by the developer, as opposed to incomplete third-party reseller marketing.
The withdrawal of the signal is deliberately not on that list. Losing an evidence base tells you nothing about whether a product works — only that nobody can check. We disclose it prominently instead, which is what we have done above. In the other direction, a new public signal with a comparable or longer record, or independent review coverage appearing on an established platform, would prompt us to reconsider the verdict in this EA's favour.
Marketing and preset disclosure: At least one third-party reseller markets this EA as showing a 7.8% maximum drawdown, without stating which risk configuration that figure refers to. The developer publishes three calibrated presets, targeting roughly 10%, 15–20%, and up to around 35% drawdown respectively. The signal we assessed was his High Risk preset, which recorded 33.76% over 24 weeks to 13 August 2026. The gap between those two numbers is therefore explained by preset selection, not by concealment on the developer's part. We flag it because a single drawdown figure published without naming its preset is incomplete, and a buyer comparing 7.8% against a High Risk track record would be misled by omission. We could not confirm the developer made the 7.8% claim himself — it does not appear in his own product description.
This EA's evidence was a live, independently-monitored MQL5 Signal, not a self-reported backtest. We pulled the official signal statistics directly rather than relying on third-party figures. We did not independently re-verify trade-by-trade execution or broker conditions, and we did not purchase or run the EA ourselves. The reference account was small — under 700 EUR equity at its final reading — which limits how far its record demonstrates behaviour at larger account sizes. Past performance, including verified live performance, is not a guarantee of future results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still verify the figures in this review?
No. The provider withdrew the MQL5 signal on 10 September 2026, and the URL now returns "signal is disabled and unavailable." Everything we published was recorded while the signal was public, and we have kept it visible as a dated historical record — but you cannot check it independently, and neither can we. That limitation applies to every figure on this page.
Why is Wave Rider marked Inconclusive?
It passed our checklist with no violations found on the official product page, and its grid mechanics are disclosed in depth. But its risk-adjusted performance was weak — a 1.43 profit factor and a recovery factor of 0.77, meaning it had produced less net profit than its largest drawdown. We found no independent review coverage on ForexPeaceArmy or Trustpilot, third-party marketing quotes a drawdown figure without naming the preset it applies to, and performance was deteriorating sharply before the signal was withdrawn.
Does the signal being withdrawn mean the EA has failed?
No, and we won't imply otherwise. Providers close signals for many reasons — subscription management, account changes, moving to a different broker, or simply not wanting the scrutiny. Withdrawal is a business decision, not a performance result. What it does mean is that the evidence supporting our assessment is no longer publicly checkable, which is why we have flagged it at the top of the page rather than buried it.
What would make you downgrade Wave Rider to Not Recommended?
Three things, published so you can hold us to them: maximum drawdown exceeding 40%, which would falsify the developer's own roughly 35% calibration for this preset; profit factor falling below 1.10 on an extended sample; or credible evidence of misrepresentation by the developer himself. Signal withdrawal is deliberately not on that list — losing an evidence base tells you nothing about whether a product works, only that nobody can check it.
Does Wave Rider use a grid strategy?
By default, yes — and it's disclosed in depth on the official product page, including a dedicated section explaining the design reasoning and risks of grid recovery. However, the EA also offers a Single Position mode using a fixed stop loss and take profit with no grid and no recovery layers at all, which the developer markets as prop-firm friendly. Our review assessed a signal running the grid configuration at its High Risk setting. Grid strategies accumulate exposure during sustained adverse moves, so preset and mode selection matter more here than with most EAs.
What was the real maximum drawdown of Wave Rider?
It depends which preset you run, and that is the crux of the confusion around this EA. The developer publishes three risk levels targeting roughly 10%, 15–20%, and up to around 35% drawdown. The signal we assessed ran the High Risk preset, and recorded 33.76% by balance and 33.01% by equity over its 24-week verified history to 13 August 2026, still unchanged at our final reading on 10 September. A 7.8% figure circulating in third-party marketing does not state which preset it refers to.
How much does Wave Rider cost?
Checked on 10 September 2026, it was listed at 399 USD as a sale price, reduced from 499 USD. Prices on the MQL5 Market change regularly, so confirm the current figure on the official product page rather than relying on this snapshot.
What account size does Wave Rider need?
The developer states a minimum deposit of $300 at 0.01 lot, and recommends $800 or more for comfortable grid recovery. Single Position mode, which runs no grid, requires less — around $150 at 0.01 lot. Given the grid configuration recorded a 33.76% drawdown at its High Risk setting, we would treat the recommended figure as a floor rather than a target. Note also that the signal we assessed ran on a small account, under 700 EUR at its final reading.
What instrument does Wave Rider trade?
Gold (XAUUSD) only. The verified signal ran on VTMarkets at 1:500 leverage — that was the account the signal was recorded on, not a requirement of the EA itself.
